A practical foundation in echocardiography
The three-month program combines a standardised curriculum with instructor-led cardiac ultrasound training. Hands-on scanning practice begins in the first week. Training is delivered at Cardiolab's South Yarra location.
It is designed to build the fundamentals for proficient, independent image acquisition and better prepare learners to pursue trainee cardiac sonographer roles. It does not promise a position or placement.

Who it is for
Applicants should have an undergraduate degree or background in a relevant health science, clinical or biomedical discipline. Previous ultrasound experience is not required.
The program may suit people considering postgraduate study, including QUT's Graduate Diploma of Cardiac Ultrasound, as well as graduates and current students in related disciplines.

Who is the program for?
The program is for people with a relevant health science, clinical or biomedical background. It may suit prospective echocardiography students considering postgraduate study, current cardiac sonography students and graduates seeking foundational training.
Do I need previous ultrasound experience?
No. A relevant academic or professional background is expected, but previous ultrasound experience is not required.
How long does training run?
The structured training program runs for three months onsite at Cardiolab in South Yarra.
How much of the program is hands-on?
The program includes theory and a standardised curriculum. A significant part of supervised training is instructor-led and practical, with repeated scanning practice from week one.
What echocardiography skills will I develop?
Training covers standard transthoracic views, image acquisition, basic measurements, recognising common findings and a complete study workflow. Learners also practise preparing a structured interim findings summary.
